“Fire Didn’t Destroy any Record at Accountant-General’s office”, says Minister

Clem Agba, minister of state for budget and planning, says the fire that gutted the office of the accountant-general of the federation did not destroy any record.

On Wednesday, fire broke out at the Treasury House, a building housing the AGF’s office.

Officials of the Federal Fire Service and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) were able to put out the fire after about an hour later.

Many had alleged that the fire was an attempt to cover up wrongdoing by the federal government.

But speaking with journalists after inspecting the affected offices in Abuja, Agba said they are yet to take an inventory of what was destroyed in the fire but all the government’s financial transactions were intact.

The minister said the fire was caused by a spark in one of the air conditioners (AC) on the fourth floor.

“We have gone round the rooms and offices where the fire affected, and I am glad to report that our data Centre where all our records are kept are fully intact,” he said.

“There is no destruction, so we haven’t lost any record. As a government I want to assure you that our records are intact, a few documents are burnt, we haven’t started recovery to check what actually burnt, but all our financial transactions are intact.

“We would be doing a full scale investigation using the right professionals to determine exactly what happened.”

Also speaking, Ahmed Idris, AGF, said there would be a “thorough” investigation of the incident. “For emphasis, our data Centre is intact, no harm in any way except for the cooling system which we are now working hard to put back to operation,” Idris said. “We are also glad there is no casualty.”

“I Fought COVID-19 with Carrots, Black seed oil, Honey, Vitamin C” – Governor Makinde

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has narrated how he recovered from COVID-19 a week after he tested positive to the disease.

The governor took to Twitter on Sunday to announce that he had tested negative for the deadly virus.

He is one of the three governors who tested positive last week. Others are the governors of Bauchi and Kaduna, Bala Mohammed and Nasir El-Rufai respectively.

Speaking in a telephone interview during a programme on Fresh FM, Ibadan, on Monday evening, Mr Makinde said he used honey, Vitamin C and Blackseed Oil.

“My very good friend and brother, Dr Muyideen Olatunji is the one in charge of the Primary Healthcare for Oyo State. He came to me and said, look, I am going to send to you this blackseed oil, it boosts immunity. So I mixed it with honey and took one teaspoon in the morning and one in the evening.”

“So, there are local solutions to boost immunity. Our people should not fret. Just as I have been able to get the virus out of my system, so will it be for the majority of our people,”.

“I am deeply moved by your prayers and support throughout this period. I am so thankful. This evening, I received my second negative test result for COVID-19. I especially thank Prof Temitope Alonge, who acted in my stead as Head of the Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force.”- Seyi Makinde

“I have lost a little bit of weight which I think is good. When you are in isolation, the tendency is just to watch television and eat, I was eating amala. But I was also using the treadmill. It has also been a period to reflect and look at the programmes, policies and the things we want to do for the people of Oyo state and also reflect on how the COVID-19 is going to affect us socially and economically,” he said.

Mr Makinde also said he will make sure that no citizen of the state dies from contracting the virus.

Speaking on the restriction of movement in Oyo State, he said: “We have been very deliberate in not directing a total lockdown until palliatives are in place. A major challenge for us is the fact that we need to cut out the middlemen, and we also have to ensure that those who actually need the palliatives are those who get the palliatives”.

Gov. Akeredolu Says Akure Explosion was Caused by Vehicle Transporting Explosives

Following a blast that destroyed about 100 houses in Akure on early morning of Saturday, March 28th, the State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu has said that the explosion was caused by a vehicle transporting explosives to a storage facility in a neighboring state.

The governor in a statement said the vehicle developed a fault while in transit and its consignment subsequently ignited causing a massive explosion at, Eleyowo, a community that is said to be less than a kilometer to Akure Airport. Alleged explosion site in Akure

He said, “I have been briefed by the security chiefs that in the early hours of Saturday, March 28th, a vehicle in a convoy transporting explosives to a storage facility in a neighboring state developed a fault while in transit along the Akure Owo Road about 2km from the Akure Airport.

Security personnel and other individuals transporting the ordinances noticed smoke from the vehicle. After several attempts to extinguish the resulting fire failed, the vehicle and its consignment ignited causing a massive explosion that was felt in Akure and its environs.

“Presently, efforts are being made to ascertain if there are casualties. Following my visit to the scene, I have directed that the area be cordoned off to allow the explosive ordinance department/bomb squad to extricate the vehicle buried underground because it is unclear if there are still explosives that are yet to be detonated. Everything is under control and I will be updating the public on any new developments”.
